It’s a lot, in the way only Jenkins can manage, a barrage of impossibly tangled feeling and dialogue that’s both compelling and gross, sympathetic and irredeemable.Īs the song starts, Jenkins distances himself from the assault: “The guy who put his hands on you/ Has got nothing to do with me”, he insists. And it’s a song about him trying to understand what she’s going through, and trying to support her, and trying to make her turn back into her old self, and feeling turned on by her, and longing for a world where no one had to experience what she did. But it’s also a song about one of the girl’s friends, and that’s the perspective Stephan Jenkins sings from. So let’s start with the basic cause: this is a song about a girl who was raped. ![]() ![]() I honestly don’t even know where to start with “Wounded”, a song so overdetermined it warrants far more space than we can give it here.
